    Rainbows, Halos, and Glories
by Robert Greenler
ISBN 0-89716-926-3

Excellent account of optical effects conveying vividly the excitement of their scientific investigation and discovery. A revered classic that has introduced so many to sky phenomena.  Available here.

    Atmospheric Halos
by Walter Tape
Antarctic Research Series, Vol. 64,
American Geophysical Union, Washington, 1994
ISBN 0-87590-834-9

Authoritative and lucid explanations. Magnificent images include many taken by the author at the South Pole.

  >   Polarized Light in Nature
by Gunther Konnen
ISBN 0 521 25862 6
Now available for free PDF download here

Polarized light is of the blue sky, even of gray clouds, rainbows and the glory.  Ice in the sky separately polarizes rays to double sundogs. Butterflies use polarization. It manifests wherever there are reflections.   Gunther Konnen is an acknowledged expert on atmospheric optics and his book encompassing so many aspects of polarisation in nature is a delight to read.

Atmospheric Halos and the Search for Angle x
by Walter Tape & Jarmo Moilanen
American Geophysical Union, Washington, 2006 details here.
ISBN 10: 0-87590-727-X    ISBN 13: 978-0-87590-727-7

While ostensibly about the quest to understand pyramidal crystal halos, this book is actually about all halos and their science. Complementary to Tape's earlier book.

       Color and Light in Nature
by David K. Lynch & William Livingston
