| Mountain Shadow & Iridescence ~
Images by Peter Salenieks in Snowdonia, Wales. He was descending Y Gribin through a layer of cloud and then looked back up through the cloud layer towards the Glyders with the sun behind the mountains. Not a hole in the cloud but the shadow of the mountains cast on the thin lower cloud layer. The higher sky with iridescent clouds is only visible within the mountain's shadow. Elsewhere the lower cloud is sunlit and its scattered light blots out the higher sky.
