Reflection Rainbows, Eilean Donan Castle, Scotland

Four bows  Vincent Lowe (Photography Site) captured this scene from Eilean Donan Castle, Loch Duich, Scotland on the afternoon of 23rd October 2004 when the sun was 12° high. Loch Duich was behind him and mirror smooth. That is the clue - light from the low sun was reflected upwards from the loch and formed a second set of reflection rainbows. The reflection bows can be thought of as coming from a virtual sun as far below the horizon as the real sun is above it. Reflection bows thus always ride high in the sky. More reflection bows 1,2,3,4.   Images ©2004 Vincent Lowe, shown with permission.
