Four bows Vincent Lowe (Photography Site) captured this scene from Eilean Donan Castle, Loch Duich, Scotland on the afternoon of 23rd October 2004 when the sun was 12° high. Loch Duich was behind him and mirror smooth. That is the clue - light from the low sun was reflected upwards from the loch and formed a second set of reflection rainbows. The reflection bows can be thought of as coming from a virtual sun as far below the horizon as the real sun is above it. Reflection bows thus always ride high in the sky.
