Window Reflections

Jonathan Holt caught these abstract, even caustic, sun reflections from windows at New Haven, Connecticut. Window glass is forced slightly convex or concave by the retaining frame or small air pressure differences. Square or other shaped frames can give astigmatic surfaces. The resulting sun reflections are distorted. Their particular shape is dependant on where the rays cross the ground or wall. Here the windows' colours make the reflections more obvious. Optical effects are everywhere and waiting to delight the eyes of those who look.      ©Jonathan Holt, shown with permission
