Mountain
shadow & anticrepuscular rays. John Wright of Nashville, Tennessee
took these sunset images in October 2002. The huge clouds in the west
(small inset) cast shadows across
the sky to form dark anticrepuscular
rays appearing by perspective
to converge on the mountain shadow's tip, the antisolar point. High
above the earth these shadows would appear as long parallel dark bands
streaking towards the night side of the planet. A nearly full moon
has recently risen in the east. Images ©2002 John
