Mirage Green Flash Sequence imaged over the Ocean
at San Francisco by Mila Zinkova (site)
in February '06. Read the images from left to right. A
flickering green flash hovers over the pancake sun. The
main inversion is so strong that ducting occurs - rays
are trapped between layers and may travel some distance
before escaping. The duct is below the brighter yellow
layer and in it there are both erect and inverted solar
images. Images ©Mila
